Required Minimum Distributions

Year-by-year RMDs from your Traditional IRA / 401(k), with lifetime totals and tax estimate — based on the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table

📖 About this tool

What it does

Year-by-year Required Minimum Distributions from your Traditional IRA / 401(k) using the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table (ages 73-119+). Computes lifetime RMDs, federal + state tax, and the after-tax amount at each age.

Who this helps

Anyone with pre-tax retirement money approaching age 73 (or 75 for those born 1960+, per SECURE 2.0). Useful for planning Roth conversions before RMDs hit.

How to use it

  1. Enter your current age and end age (life expectancy).
  2. Pick your RMD start age — 73 (born 1951-1959) or 75 (born 1960+).
  3. Enter your Traditional balance and expected annual return.
  4. Set federal and state tax rates.
  5. Read the lifetime totals and the year-by-year schedule.

What it doesn't do

Doesn't model spousal stretch (handled by the Inherited IRA tool for non-spouse heirs only). Doesn't apply the QCD strategy — see the QCD Calculator for that.
